Take note of these Energy Boosts
ByChanging the food that you eat can help you to get more energy without having to drink more caffeine or eat more chocolate.
The best foods to eat are those that can be quickly turned into energy by the body. Sugar can do this but as we now know, it disrupts the blood sugar levels and doesn’t contain much else that the body needs.
There are small changes that you can make to get more energy from your food. Avoid refined sugars and refined carbs such as white bread, biscuits, white rice and processed food. Limit tea, coffee, nicotine and alcohol as much as possible. Eat more raw veg and some fruit. And drink plenty of water.
As a nutritionist, I know that it’s not just what you eat that has an impact on how you feel although it does play a big part, it’s also what you drink, what you think and what you do.
There are many remedies that can help lift your energy. If you feel that your energy needs a boost, contact me for a free initial consultation to see what remedies can be tailored to your needs.
Energy Boosting Remedies
One of the quickest ways to restore energy is to drink up. But forget that chronic caffeine fix. Caffeine can lead to a quick energy burst, but it usually results in restlessness and insomnia later. Caffeine also stresses the adrenal glands and can lead to other long term health complications.
Instead drink water. Our bodies and brains are 70% water. So filling up on the minimum 8 glasses daily is like putting fuel in your gas tank.
If you must go to caffeine for a pick-me-up, try green tea. It contains approximately 30-40mgs of caffeine per cup, roughly half the amount found in coffee. Green tea is also less acidic than coffee and it contains powerful antioxidants and amino acids that function as great natural energy boosters and improve vitality.
Exercise is probably the best natural energy booster, outside of the foods we eat. This doesn’t have to mean you joining a gym or spending money on equipment. Going for a walk every day is a good place to start. Yoga or Tíai chi are also good for energy.
Sleep is the most natural remedy for increasing natural energy levels. Experts recommend at least 8 hours of sleep per night. If your schedule does not allow for 8 hours of sleep each night, experiment by going to bed 15-30 minutes earlier than normal or taking a quick nap.
Also, try to avoid caffeine after 2pm as it can interfere with your quality of sleep. Just because you are physically able to fall asleep after drinking caffeine does not mean it isn’t impacting your quality of rest and recovery.
Allow your body to get the most out of your 5-8 hours by avoiding caffeine after 2pm.† †Increasing the amount of sleep you get by as little as 20minutes can be one of the simplest natural energy boosters to incorporate into your life.
